This is one of those times when Pastor Ivan is really busy and asked if I could post this video for him. Lillian Daniel is one of the great writers and leaders in the United Church of Christ today. She is the Senior Pastor of First Congregational UCC in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. If you receive the daily devotional in your email from the UCC (and if you don't I encourage you to sign up here) she often writes them. Her latest book is entitled When "Spiritual but Not Religious" Is Not Enough: Seeing God In Surprising Places, Even The Church.
This an excerpt from a recent sermon that Pastor Ivan thought you might enjoy. Comments are always welcome!
You can view the entire sermon here.
I think it's important to recognize how much longer Christianity embraced questioning over the notion of inerrancy. The Right claim legitimacy and that they are the only true Christians, yet their ideas are merely a flash in the pan.
ReplyDeleteSome of the ideas they promote only came about in the late 1880's and later. That's almost 1900 years of thinking of and conversing with one another about our experience with God. The notion of inerrancy is very recent.
ReplyDeleteAnd Lillian Daniel? She's the bomb!
